Periodontics
What is Periodontics?
Periodontics is the branch of dentistry that treats diseases of the gums and the bone that supports the teeth. This is because gum diseases, such as gingivitis and periodontitis, are among the most common causes of tooth loss; therefore, their control is fundamental to your oral health.
What are the most common conditions treated in periodontics?
The most common periodontal diseases are gingivitis and periodontitis, generally caused by the buildup of bacterial plaque due to poor oral hygiene. This leads to gum inflammation, bleeding, bad breath, tooth sensitivity, and even tooth mobility.
While gingivitis can be treated and reversed, periodontitis can cause irreversible damage if not detected in time. That is why maintaining good oral hygiene and visiting the dentist regularly is essential to preventing and treating these diseases early.
